Sorting out the complicated web of John Pashalis’s family-run pizza parlors might call for a genealogical chart. Mr. Pashalis added another branch to his family restaurant tree last Month when he opened Angelo’s Pizza, at 117 West 57th Street. For 22 years, Mr. Pashalis worked with Nick Angelis, a cousin who owns Pizza Chef in Brooklyn and Nick’s Pizza in Forest Hills, Queens. (Angelo’s is named for Nick’s father, who used to own the Pizza Chef.) Other relatives own four of the Patsy’s Pizza Restaurants in Manhattan.
Angelo’s signature dish is a simple tomato-mozzarella coal-oven pizza. Angelo’s is in one of the relatively few Manhattan buildings with coal-burning ovens. Pizzas cost from $11 to $13 (toppings $2 extra). ALEXANDRA McGINLEY
